A beautiful sunny day dawned on April 8, 2023 and a team of 45 children, adults and three dogs gathered together at Georgica Pond to pick up plastic and other trash. A total of 112 pounds of trash was collected that morning. The amazing thing was that at the start of the clean-up, no one thought there was much trash on the beach. But our hard-working team found that just below the sand surface and entwined in the dune grass were the usual bottle caps, abandoned plastic beach toys, cigarillo tips and more. All this plastic was removed from the marine ecosystem and properly disposed of. After the clean-up the group participated in a discussion on how to Reduce, Reuse & Recycle in their daily lives. Special thanks to the Surfrider Foundation, the East Hampton Library Young Adult group, and the Georgica Association.
